Sports: Eagles Win Over Niger a Morale Booster - Oliseh

Carl Ikeme Has Kept Two Clean Sheets for the Nigeria National Team Since His Debut against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.

Head coach of the Nigeria senior men’s national team, Sunday Oliseh, says his side’s win over Niger will boost their confidence.

The Super Eagles defeated Niger 2-0 in an international friendly in Port-Harcourt on Tuesday.

Captain Ahmed Musa scored the first goal of the Sunday Oliseh reign and had a goal wrongly disallowed, before substitute Moses Simon grabbed the team’s second with a fierce strike.

“To win a game is good for the confidence,” Oliseh said after the friendly win at the Adokie Amiesiamaka Stadium.

“We are getting more organised – we know what to do now when we lose the ball, but we need to hold the ball much longer and dictate the pace of game.”

Oliseh also said he will give the likes of John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses a chance to prove themselves in his new side.

“There is room for everybody in the Eagles,” he said, clarifying his stance on Chelsea’s Mikel Obi and LOSC Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. “We just want some of the players to get playing time. Like I said, everyone would get their chance. Mikel, Vincent Enyeama, they are all in the plan.

In the absence of Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper, Carl Ikeme, had an impressive debut against Tanzania at the weekend and maintained his clean sheet against Le Mena.

The ex-Nigeria international skipper maintained no player has an automatic shirt in the squad, saying: “I played for the Eagles, but when I left, I was replaced. The only thing you cannot replace is Nigeria.”

The 40-year-old tactician also expressed his joy over the loan move of winger Moses to West Ham United.

“I am particularly happy for Moses that he was able to get the loan move on the last day of the transfer window and this means he would be getting playing time and that is what we want,” he stressed.
